RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE 36TH PICA D’ESTATS AWARD

The Patronat de Turisme of the Diputació de Lleida and the Col·legi de Periodistes de Catalunya are promoting the Pica d’Estats Award for press, radio, television and digital media to recognise the best journalistic work showcasing tourism in the Pyrenees and Lands of Lleida.

The Award is aimed at the authors of journalistic work published in any medium (written press, radio, television, digital media, etc.) and produced in any language in the period from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025. Entries for the award must prioritise the promotion of tourism in the Lleida area.

Participation in the 36th Pica d’Estats Award implies full acceptance of the following rules and regulations.

There are eight categories, each with a prize of 6,000 euros:

  1. Best journalistic report

The report will be evaluated as a whole, considering both the journalistic text and the photography. Works published in print or digital media are eligible.

  1. Best journal article

Only the quality of the journalistic text will be assessed. All works published in print and/or digital media are eligible.

  1. Best photographic report

Only the quality of photographs published in general interest or specialised media, whether in print and/or digital, will be assessed. Each entry must comprise a selection of up to 10 photographs.

  1. Best radio entry

Both radio programmes and podcasts are eligible.

  1. Best audiovisual entry

Programmes broadcast on television or via streaming platforms are eligible.

  1. Best transmedia entry

In this category, prizes will be awarded to entries consisting of different publications in more than one medium or channel, priority being given to publications on the internet. Credit will be given to reports that combine different formats and languages and that have a joint communicative strategy in which social media play a significant role.

  1. Best international press entry

This category is reserved for items published in the international media (regardless of their type). All articles, radio and audiovisual items, reports, photographs and transmedia works published in international media must therefore be entered exclusively in this category.

  1. Best work published in local media

This category is reserved for all items published in any media in the Lleida area (regardless of their type). All articles, radio and audiovisual works, reports, photographs and transmedia works published in local media in Lleida must therefore be entered exclusively in this category.

A single item may be submitted in only one category. However, in the categories of “Best photographic report”, “Best journal article” and “Best transmedia entry”, entries may be submitted if they have already been submitted in the “Best journalistic report” category. This criterion is applied exclusively to these three categories to make it easier for authors to highlight a report as a whole or the quality of the writing, the photographs or the transmedia strategy. This criterion does not apply to the categories “Best work published in local media” and “Best international press entry”.

The beneficiary of the award will be the author, regardless of the person, company or organisation submitting the entry. Any natural person over the age of 18 and/or legal entity may compete.

If the item has more than one author, the entry must state, as a percentage, how much each of them will receive if their work wins. If no percentage is specified, the prize will be shared equally among all the authors.

Entries must be submitted between 1 and 31 October 2025, inclusive. If the documentation submitted is incorrect or incomplete, the person who has submitted the entry will be asked to correct or complete the documentation within ten business days.

Entries must be accompanied by the entry form available at this link, correctly filled in, clearly identifying the author(s) and including a photocopy of their ID card(s).

Prizes will be paid to the authors of the winning entries, irrespective of who submitted the entry. The author or media outlet submitting the entry declare that all the authors have agreed to participate in the competition.

In order to submit entries, the following must be provided:

  1. For journalistic articles published in printed media, the publication in which the article appeared or a file in PDF format.
  2. For journalistic articles published in digital media, a link to the content. A PDF file with the content may also be attached if the author deems it appropriate.
  3. For radio broadcasts, podcast and audiovisual media, a file with the programme or a link to the online content, if it is available on streaming platforms. If the programmes are part of a series, the author must select three individual programmes as they were broadcast.
  4. Photographic items must be submitted in full resolution. Each entry must consist of a selection of a maximum of up to 10 photographs.
  5. For entries in the transmedia category, publications must be submitted in the corresponding format, as set out in the points above. For publications on social media, a link to the content must be provided.

The jury will consist of at least seven members, including:

  • Chair: Dean of the Col·legi de Periodistes de Catalunya, or a substitute.
  • Secretary: The post will be filled by a member of staff from the Patronat de Turisme of the Diputació de Lleida.
  • At least 5 other members, appointed by the Patronat de Turisme and the Col-legi de Periodistes de Catalunya, who will be recognised professionals from the world of journalism and communication. One of the members will be the president of the Col·legi de Periodistes de Catalunya, or a substitute.

In the 35th edition of the Pica d’Estats Award, the jury was chaired by the Dean of the Col·legi de Periodistes de Catalunya, Joan Maria Morros. Other members were Josep Cuní, Pepa Fernández, Lluís Foix, Mariano Palacín, Mònica Terribas, Laura Alcalde, Francesc Canosa, Anna Sàez, Francesc Guillaumet and Josep Cabasés. The director of the Patronat de Turisme, Juli Alegre, acted as secretary.

In order to select the winners, the jury will give credit to the entries that best showcase the Pyrenees and the Lands of Lleida, presenting original features and promoting the diversity of lifestyles and options for tourism in the area.

The jury may name joint winners in a particular category if it deems it appropriate. In this case, the prize money will be shared equally by the authors of the winning entries. The jury may declare a category void if it considers that the entries submitted are not of sufficient quality.

The jury reserves the right to reassign entries submitted to a different category, if it deems it appropriate.

The jury will meet in February 2026 and the winners in each category will be informed on the same day. The jury’s decision will be final.

The awards ceremony will take place in May 2026. The Patronat de Turisme of the Diputació de Lleida and the Col-legi de Periodistes de Catalunya will decide where the event is to take place.
