RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE 37TH PICA D’ESTATS AWARD
The Patronat de Turisme of the Diputació de Lleida and the Catalonia Journalists’ Association are promoting the Pica d’Estats Award for press, radio, television and digital media to recognise the best journalistic works dealing with any aspect related to tourism in the Pyrenees and Lands of Lleida.
The award is aimed at the authors of journalistic work published in any medium (written press, radio, television, digital media, etc.) and produced in any language in the period from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026. The works submitted for the award must promote tourism in the region by showcasing its tourist, scenic, socioeconomic, cultural or gastronomic assets. These works should contribute to the promotion of local tourist resources.
Participation in the 37th Pica d’Estats Award implies full acceptance of the following rules and regulations:
There are eight categories, each endowed with €6,000:
This category awards the best comprehensive journalistic report published in print and/or digital media. Both the quality of the text and the photographs are valued equally. The work must have a strong narrative that ties in with the visual images.
Only the quality of the journalistic text will be assessed. All works published in print and/or digital media are eligible.
Only the technical and artistic quality of photographs published in general interest or specialised media, whether in print and/or digital, will be assessed. Each submitted entry must consist of a selection of a maximum of 10 photographs.
Both radio programmes and podcasts are eligible, in recognition of new formats which are now on equal footing with traditional radio.
Programmes broadcast on television or via streaming platforms are eligible.
This category recognises works that bring the narrative to a wider audience through various channels and media, giving special attention to publications in digital environments. Particular value will be given to projects that have a coherent narrative, in which each channel adds something special to the overall story, and which combine diverse formats and languages. The fact that they have a joint communication strategy will be taken into account, with social media playing a significant role in dissemination and user experience.
This category is reserved for all works (regardless of type) published in the international media. All articles, radio and audiovisual items, reports, photographs and transmedia works published in international media must therefore be entered exclusively in this category.
This category is reserved for all items published in any media in the Lleida area (regardless of their type). All articles, radio and audiovisual works, reports, photographs and transmedia works published in local media in Lleida must therefore be entered exclusively in this category.
A single work may only be submitted in one category. However, in the categories of “Best photographic report”, “Best journal article” and “Best transmedia entry”, entries may be submitted even if they have already been submitted in the “Best journalistic report” category. This criterion is applied exclusively to these three categories to make it easier for authors to highlight a report as a whole or the quality of the writing, the photographs or the transmedia strategy. This criterion does not apply to the categories of “Best international press entry” and “Best work published in local media”.
The beneficiary of the award will be the author, regardless of the person, company or organisation submitting the entry. Any natural person over the age of 18 and/or legal entity may compete.
If the work has more than one author, they themselves must determine (in percentages) the amount each will receive should their work be the winner.
Works must be submitted between 1 October and 31 October 2026, inclusive. If the documentation submitted is incorrect or incomplete, the person who has submitted the entry will be asked to correct or complete the documentation within ten business days.
Submissions must be accompanied by the registration form available at this link, correctly completed, in which the author(s) must be clearly identified and a photocopy of each person’s ID card included.
Prizes will be paid to the authors of the winning entries, irrespective of who submitted the entry.
To submit a work, the following information or documentation must be provided:
The Patronat de Turisme of the Diputació de Lleida and the Catalonia Journalists’ Association, as promoters of the Pica d’Estats Award, may not accept for consideration any entries that do not comply with the rules. In this case, cancellation of registration will be communicated to the person who submitted the entry, and the work will not be forwarded to the jury for consideration.
The jury will consist of at least seven members:
At the 36th edition of the Pica d’Estats Award, the jury was presided over by Laura Alcalde, president of the Lleida branch of the Catalonia Journalists’ Association, by delegation of the Association’s dean, Joan Maria Morros. Other members were Josep Cuní, Pepa Fernández, Lluís Foix, Mariano Palacín, Mònica Terribas, Francesc Canosa, Anna Sàez, Francesc Guillaumet and Josep Cabasés. The director of the Patronat de Turisme, Juli Alegre, acted as secretary.
In order to select the winners, the jury will give credit to the entries that best showcase the Pyrenees and the Lands of Lleida, presenting original features and promoting the diversity of lifestyles and options for tourism in the area.
The jury may name joint winners in a particular category if it deems it appropriate. In this case, the prize money will be shared equally by the authors of the winning entries. The jury may declare a category void if it considers that the entries submitted are not of sufficient quality.
The jury reserves the right to reassign entries submitted to a different category, if it deems it appropriate.
The jury will meet during February 2027 and, once it has reached a verdict, will inform the winners of each category. The jury’s decision will be final.
The awards ceremony will take place in May 2027. The Patronat de Turisme of the Diputació de Lleida and the Catalonia Journalists’ Association will decide where the event is to take place.
